31/31: Angela Cartwright

31 artists...31 days. Spend every day of March with me at The Altered Page to meet the 31 spotlight artists in my book The Pulse of Mixed Media: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed. See their beautiful faces, read their 'quirky' bios written in their own words, see some of their art that led me to invite them to be a part of my book, and hear my story of what they each mean to me. Then click on over to their sites and see what they have to say about The Pulse of Mixed Media.
------------------------------------
I am an unruly artist.

I feel naked without a camera in my hand. When you are a photographer I think it trains you to see life differently.

I can't imagine a world without art.

------------------------------------
Angela Cartwright is a creative inspiration. As I am sure most, if not all of you know, she is Angela Cartwright the actress, of The Sound of Music and Lost in Space fame. And she is Angela Cartwright the artist, working in mixed media, photography and shadows, as can be seen on her blog and website. And she is Angela Cartwright the author of several art books and, along with Sarah Fishburn, the creator of the spectacular zine Pasticcio Quartz. And she is Angela Cartwright the designer of artful clothes and home decor.

She is also a wonderful, supportive, down-to-earth friend. She was a participant in my first online edition of The Pulse, way back in early 2008, and has been part of the later editions as well. She has generously spotlighted by art and my blog in her zine and on her own blog. I have appreciated the inspiration she has provided and look at her as a model of somebody who sets her sites on a goal and a dream...and works to successfully achieve that goal and make her dream come true. Thanks for being a muse to many Angela!

I had seen Angela's art before but didnt know all these other aspect of her. Wow. Just a side note, I have to chuckle when you say "way back in 2008." for me, aged 66, 2008 seems like yesterday. way back might be say 1956 LOL

I just love Angela's work in all of her different venues of creative artistry. I am so lucky to have had work published in her and Sarah's breathtakingly gorgeous Pasticcio Quartz and have been a follower for a while. Yesterday afternoon, I had the great pleasure of speaking to her as a call in on the Mojo radio show, and she was so genuine and generous with her thougths and commments. Angela indicated that she paints on her photographs- and believe it or not, hadn't thought of that before as I put my photographs in my paintings. I love the inspiration she provides to so many and so blessed to have my artwork in your book with hers. She is such a unique one of a kind talent- a true artist in every sense of the word!

I first heard about Angela a long time ago and then sort of got interested in other things and forgot. Thanks for the reminder! I like her point of view and interesting techniques.

I've just been over to the "home of an unruly artist," and am totally floored! And. . . Seth is right: 'Angela Cartwright IS a creative inspiration.' How can one person be so proficient and incredibly imaginative, in so many areas?! I perused the 'ATC,' 'Altered Books & Painted Panels,' and 'Random Journal Pages' portions of her website, and found lots to love, think about, and be inspired by. The pieces on her 31/31 blog post, here, are delightful! I love them all, but am particularly struck by the detail and layers in the first piece, and the vibrant color and simplicity of the second one. I love the way in which she integrates photography into her work in such a way that her photos become simply another 'art material' in her overall creative pallette. In the past I've seen her work on 'Pasticcio Quartz,' but now feel like I've had a much more complete introduction to all she is 'about' as an artist. Thanks, Seth, for once again turning your spotlight on another artistic 'force of nature.'

Angela's work is terrific in so many mediums. i guess it could be said she "lives an artful life".

ps: i'm surpirsed no one mentioned her work on the danny thomas show? (make room for daddy)

Here is what is amazing to me. That one individual can be all of those things mentioned in this post. It reminds me of the idea that one part of one's life can spill over to another part. The parts inform each other. Even if we don't know about them doing it, or about how. But Angela is a creative force. Just love this and love what I see in her art. *smiles* Norma

Angela Cartwright speaks to my creative soul. I love her work. I also love the 31 artists idea - it's so wonderful to see how differently artistic minds work - often with the exact same materials.

Well! I think I like Angela's work very much since I own 3 books she collaborated in "In this House", "In this garden" and "Mixed Emulsions"! I did not know however that Ishe was also the actress I knew! i really love her way of altering photos!

So much talent in thirty-one days and how can anyone get anything done but look at blogs and more blogs, but hey, it's relatively free entertainment/education. Love Angela Cartwright and thanks for all of this. Oh, wait, one more day to go!

I can relate to her self-description 'unruly artist'. Her results bely the fact tho' and are fascinating to say the least.

I love Angela's art. Have seen it in Somerset Studio on numerous occasions. She really is an inspiration and has an amazing life story showing us that when one door closes another opens but then you have to go through the door to pursue the next chapter of your future.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, Chris! Can't you finish ANYTHING? Even the 31 artists thread?!

Well, Mr. Smart toes, I can and I will.

I even went so far as to listen to Angela on the mojo podcast, and I thought, HMM... I remember when I worked in Burbank and often went out past Rubber Boots and if I had only gone in there...

well. i'm kind of a klepto.
